It is important to review the Instructions for Use. These instructions cover everything you need to know about how to use Enbrel®.
Women of childbearing potential should consider the use of appropriate contraception to avoid becoming pregnant during etanercept therapy and for 3 weeks after discontinuation of therapy1
Etanercept crosses the placenta and has been detected in the serum of infants born to female patients treated with etanercept during pregnancy. The clinical impact of this is unknown; however, infants may be at increased risk of infection. Administration of live vaccines to infants for 16 weeks after the mother’s last dose of etanercept is generally not recommended1
Enbrel® pre-filled syringe and pre-filled pen must be stored refrigerated at 2 °C to 8 °C1
Patients or caregivers who are to administer Enbrel® must be instructed in proper syringe and needle disposal, and be cautioned against reuse of these items1
Make sure the solution in the pre-filled syringe is clear or slightly opalescent, colourless or pale yellow and may contain small white or almost transparent particles of protein. This appearance is normal for Enbrel®1
The pre-filled syringe is for single-use administration only1
Follow the instructions that explain how to use the MYCLIC® pen to inject Enbrel®1
Check the expiry date (month/year) on the pen. If the date has passed, do not use the pen and contact your pharmacist for assistance1
The pen should only be used once – it should never be reused. Dispose of the used pen as instructed by your doctor, nurse or pharmacist1
